Support from start to finish

Edna’s utilised all the help at hand during her time at Kent. Now in the final year of her Politics degree she’s taking a look back at how she got there.

The support I’ve received from the Politics lecturing staff has been unmatched. Everyone is approachable and eager to discuss academics, or even just have a general chat about university life and postgraduate plans during their office hours.

I remember feeling anxious about studying a course that could be demanding at times, especially with the added pressure of a research dissertation. But the staff support you every step of the way, keeping you informed about any updates or changes to modules and the course.

My academic advisor has been especially helpful in guiding me through new changes and helping me navigate choices like selecting the right modules. I was able to figure out what suited me best, whether it was modules with exams or those entirely coursework-based.

Whenever I’ve had doubts or challenges, such as with my dissertation, they’ve been incredibly supportive.

The course itself offers a wide variety of disciplines. I became particularly fond of political philosophy and international relations. Later in the course, I was also pushed out of my comfort zone with research using data and numbers. This not only broadened my perspective but also equipped me with valuable skills that employers appreciate.

The class sizes are small to medium, striking the perfect balance. They’re not too intimidating, yet large enough to meet new people and make friends. As someone who did a year abroad, this was important for me, as I could still connect with others who shared the same experience. We were in similar modules and were able to stay connected even when other friends had graduated the year before.

For anyone considering studying Politics and International Relations at Kent, I can confidently say this is an excellent place for those passionate about current and international affairs. The staff are incredibly dedicated, and I’m grateful to be part of such a supportive and vibrant community.
