This upcoming debate night will be an unmissable collaboration between 4 societies.
Training has started in earnest for this 4 way society collab, a debating contest between the Labour and Conservative Societies, co-moderated by the Politics and International Relations society along with the Debating Society.
In the blue corner we have Charlie Bowman-Millar from the Kent University Conservative Association told us.
“Debate is something we have all missed during lockdown; the ability to engage in discussion with other people, finding common ground in a polarised world through the art of persuasion. We’re all looking forward to seeing the Labour society next Wednesday!”
In the red corner, Kent Labour Society are also limbering up.
“Kent Labour Society can’t wait to have a healthy debate with the Tories about topics we feel very passionate about. We hope everyone can come!” Gemma Shanahan, from Kent Labour Students told us.
With both these heavy-weights in the ring, it makes sense to have a double referee situation. We asked Tommaso Israely, from the Politics & IR Society what to expect.
“The Politics & IR society is excited to partner with the Debating society to bring this exciting event where debaters from the Conservative and Labour parties will face off on the most pressing issues of the day – the government’s response to COVID-19 (in the form of mock PMQs), proposals of free public transport (from Labour) and the expansion of Trident (from the Conservatives). Audience members will have the opportunity to question the debaters, and vote on who won, we can’t wait!”
