UCU Industrial Action

Kent is one of 57 Higher Education institutions where members of the University and College Union (UCU) voted in support of taking strike action, or action short of a strike, over HE sector pay and conditions.

The dates for the planned strike action are as follows:

Monday 25 November – Friday 29 November (5 consecutive days)

Monday 2 December – Wednesday 4 December (3 consecutive days)

UCU have also advised their members to begin action short of a strike from Monday 25 November onwards.

If you are a student, please see the student webpages on industrial action for full information about the Industrial Action, FAQs and University advice and support.

We are holding the Student Voice Forum on Wednesday 27 November from 12-12.30pm in Woolf Seminar Room 5. All Politics and International Relations students are welcome to come along and discuss any concerns they have.

We’ll be meeting with your Student Reps at the Politics and International Relations Student Voice Committee which starts straight after the Student Voice Forum next Wednesday, so feedback your concerns to your Reps so they can raise them with us.

What can I do during the strike?

We would urge you to continue with your learning and use the time to reflect on your work independently. University campuses will be open as usual with libraries, study spaces, PC rooms, student services, sports facilities, catering and accommodation operating as normal. You should also have full access to all buildings and facilities as you would expect to. The University has suggested that you use the time and free teaching space to organise into student-led sessions to discuss coursework or approaches relating to the module.

In addition, you might like to take the time to think about transferrable skills/personal development.  Perhaps take a look at the following Politics and International Relations School support:
