{"id":533,"date":"2022-03-24T16:01:21","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T16:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/physastro\/?p=533"},"modified":"2023-03-24T16:03:23","modified_gmt":"2023-03-24T16:03:23","slug":"kent-signs-mou-with-discovery-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/physastro\/2022\/03\/24\/kent-signs-mou-with-discovery-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent signs MoU with Discovery Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University and Discovery Park have signed a Memorandum of Understanding\u00a0(MoU)\u00a0that will see them work together in a number of\u00a0strategic areas including Industrial Biotechnology, Neurosciences and digital and data driven healthcare, increasingly referred to as \u2018Tech Bio\u2019.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Discovery Park, the leading science park in Kent, is already actively engaged with the University\u2019s Industrial Biotechnology\u00a0research groups, which are partners in the Growing Kent and Medway Project. The University\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/213\/biotechnology-and-bioengineering\">Industrial Biotechnology MSc<\/a>\u00a0course has already been identified as adding to Discovery Park\u2019s ability to provide research expertise to the benefit of the Industrial Biotechnology\u00a0community.\u202f\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/chemistry-forensic-science\/people\/459\/barker-robert\">Dr Robert Barker<\/a>, Innovation Lead for the University\u2019s Division of Natural Sciences, said: \u2018Discovery Park is a strategic point of engagement for the Biotech community and an important hub for our students and research community as they work to develop their world leading research and innovations. This MoU will enable us all to work more closely together as we seek to address some of the most pressing issues in Tech Bio. It will also enable us to encourage, develop and promote new ventures, as well as retaining talent within our region and disciplines.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Mayer Schreiber, CEO Discovery Park, said: \u2018Signing this MoU creates solid foundations to bring scientific research and companies closer together and strengthens our shared ambitions. Collaboration between academia and business is essential if we are to build on the exciting developments that are coming out of the University\u2019s laboratories.
