{"id":486,"date":"2021-06-03T16:22:54","date_gmt":"2021-06-03T15:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/physastro\/?p=486"},"modified":"2023-03-21T16:23:29","modified_gmt":"2023-03-21T16:23:29","slug":"conference-for-undergraduate-women-in-physics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/physastro\/2021\/06\/03\/conference-for-undergraduate-women-in-physics\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Meezaan Tanveer a physics student within the division of natural sciences attended the Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics a three-day conference bringing\u00a0together undergraduates who identify as women.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Meezaan\u00a0Tanveer,\u00a0a\u00a0Kent Physics student\u00a0attended\u00a0the\u00a0exclusive\u00a0Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Designed to\u00a0encourage undergraduates to continue in physics by focusing on their development as a scientist and showcasing options for their educational and professional futures, the\u00a0three-day\u00a0event\u00a0bought\u00a0together undergraduates who identify as women<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">CUWiP\u00a0UK<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0conference was included\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">presentations by distinguished physicists on their cutting-edge research and personal career paths, and those interested in attending has to apply for a place. Meezan explains why she applied and tells us a bit more about the event:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cI r<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">eceived\u00a0an email from my\u00a0Academic Advisor about the conference, and it piqued my interest since all the speakers were female physicists. What also caught my attention was that the speakers were all in different lines of work, but all did physics\u00a0undergraduate\u00a0degrees.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I wanted to understand more about potential career paths for physics students and how other people ended up on different career paths as well as learning more about the experiences of women in physics. I felt like many of my peers knew what fields they wanted to do in the future, but I didn\u2019t really know what I wanted to do in the future.
