The Diamond Light Source has received confirmation of £81.5M in UKRI funding for its flagship project, Diamond-II. This will enable the construction five new beamlines, including the Beamline for X-ray Raman Scattering and pink-beam XES (BERRIES) whose champion is Physics of Quantum Materials research group member and the Head of Physics and Astronomy at Kent, Silvia Ramos. Silvia chairs the 13-strong User Working group that proposed this beamline and that will oversee the delivery of this £15M project over the next decade. BERRIES is expected to make a big impact on both academia and industry, in several scientific areas important to the UK’s research priorities, such as chemistry and catalysis, energy materials and nuclear waste management, among others.
