Applying through Clearing? Hear about Lucy’s experience

‘Remember that a change in plans may just turn out to be the best experience you could wish for!’

We caught up with Physics student, Lucy Abbott, about her experience of applying to Kent through Clearing.

‘Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Applied Optics at the University of Kent. However, back in the summer of 2018, I was two years post-sixth form, working full-time and about to apply for the Physics with a Foundation Year degree at Kent, through Clearing.

Applying for this degree was not new to me, as it had been my dream course if my time during A-Levels had gone to plan. Nevertheless, I attended Kent’s open day where I spoke with helpful and supportive staff, and then decided to re-apply through the Clearing website.

If you are considering applying through Clearing, whether directly from school/college or if you took time away from education like me, my advice is to stay dedicated to your passion. Don’t be afraid to approach the university for advice on the best option for you, as well as speak to friends and family for support.

I wish you the best of luck with your results and beyond. Remember that a change in plans may just turn out to be the best experience you could wish for!’
