Are we using the most appropriate measurements when it comes to assessing gender inequality in STEM? We use national and departmental statistics, as well as practical examples to discuss this matter. Moreover we analyse the evolution of gender inequality over the past few decades. We also explore the purpose of Athena Swan (Scientific Women’s Academic Network) and its contribution to academia.
