11 May ~ Jocelyne Ishak “Some topological fun”

This talk is intended to introduce the area of topology to a general audience in a fun way. We will start by defining the notion of topologically equivalent  surfaces. Then we will look at some interesting shapes ( Mobius strip, Klein bottle,…. ) We will define the notion of orientability on surfaces, talk a little about the famous Poincaré conjecture. We will end it by looking at some cool applications of topology applied to study the human brain!

Warning: We will have more pictures and videos than words! (guaranteed), and unexpected events….

N.B: Audience from different backgrounds are more than welcome since this talk is designed to be accessible by everyone…
