{"id":725,"date":"2018-04-09T09:24:54","date_gmt":"2018-04-09T09:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/paris-news\/?p=725"},"modified":"2018-04-09T14:04:07","modified_gmt":"2018-04-09T14:04:07","slug":"painter-to-the-king","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/paris-news\/2018\/04\/09\/painter-to-the-king\/","title":{"rendered":"Painter to the King"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amy Sackville, author and teacher of Creative Writing at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/paris\/\">University of Kent Paris School of Arts and Culture<\/a>, has released her third novel <a href=\"http:\/\/grantabooks.com\/painter-to-the-king\"><em>Painter to the King<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This week it appears as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2018\/apr\/05\/painter-to-the-king-by-amy-sackville-review-a-virtuoso-portrait-of-velazquez\">Guardian&#8217;s Book of the Week<\/a> and is described as\u00a0\u201cone of the finest historical novels of recent years\u201d by a novelist with \u201cextraordinary gifts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her first novel,<em>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/portobellobooks.com\/the-still-point\">The Still Point<\/a><\/em>\u00a0won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize and was long-listed for the Dylan Thomas and the Orange Prizes. Her second novel\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/grantabooks.com\/Orkney-5\"><em>Orkney<\/em><\/a>\u00a0won a Somerset Maugham Award.<\/p>\n<p>Amy Sackville will be appearing at <a href=\"https:\/\/shakespeareandcompany.com\/event\/850\/amy-sackville-on-painter-to-the-king\">Shakespeare &amp; Co<\/a>, a historic bookstore in Paris, on the 3rd of May.
