{"id":374,"date":"2016-01-26T14:11:05","date_gmt":"2016-01-26T14:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/paris-news\/?p=374"},"modified":"2016-01-26T14:13:18","modified_gmt":"2016-01-26T14:13:18","slug":"ambassador-invites-kent-ma-students-to-reception-at-official-residence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/paris-news\/2016\/01\/26\/ambassador-invites-kent-ma-students-to-reception-at-official-residence\/","title":{"rendered":"Ambassador invites Kent MA students to reception at official Residence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>University of Kent, Paris students were welcomed by Her Majesty\u2019s Ambassador Sir Peter Ricketts, GCMG GCVO at his official Paris Residence for an evening reception to mark the start of term.<br \/>\nSir Peter, who is an honorary graduate of the University, enjoyed meeting new MA students as well as staff.<br \/>\nStudents were invited on a tour of the Residence, known officially as the H\u00f4tel de Charost, built in the early eighteenth century and once the home of Napol\u00e9on Bonaparte\u2019s sister Pauline Borghese. This stately urban mansion was purchased by the Duke of Wellington after Bonaparte\u2019s fall from power, and has been the site of British diplomatic services ever since. The H\u00f4tel de Charost is located just a few doors down from the Presidential \u00c9lys\u00e9e Palace.<br \/>\nKent guests were invited to tour elegant reception rooms downstairs, and were also offered a rare chance to visit the ambassador\u2019s private study, the Duff Cooper Library, complete with trap door.<br \/>\nAfter the tour students were invited to a champagne reception hosted by the ambassador and his wife Lady Suzanne Ricketts.<br \/>\nParis MA students were accompanied by Professor Peter Brown, Academic Director (Paris programmes), Professor Peter Read (SECL), Professor David Welch (History), Professor Catherine Waters (English), Dr Carine Fr\u00e9ville (English), and Dr Derek Ryan (English).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>University of Kent, Paris students were welcomed by Her Majesty\u2019s Ambassador Sir Peter Ricketts, GCMG GCVO at his official Paris Residence for an evening reception to mark the start of term.
