The shops put out their finest wares, the city streets are decked in lights and holiday markets pop up around the city. Two former stations on La Petite Ceinture railway in the 18th arrondissements (cool hangouts in their own right!) are hosting march\u00e9s de No\u00ebl \u00e9co-responsables.\u00a0 La REcyclerie is hosting three on-going markets daily through December 18th and Le Hasard Ludique\u2019s market is taking place on Sunday December 11th and 18th. Another great option is The Foundation GoodPlanet which is organising a Christmas \u201csupermarket\u201d with environmentally-friendly and \u201csolidaire\u201d gifts, plus they are also giving you the opportunity to make your own gifts during workshops held on the weekends of December 10th and 11th and 17th and 18th.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2965\" style=\"width: 767px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2965\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2965\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/paris-news\/files\/2022\/12\/Provins-Noel.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"757\" height=\"500\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2965\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">March\u00e9 de Noel de Provins<\/p><\/div>\n<h3><strong>March\u00e9 de No\u00ebl de Provins<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A highlight of the holiday season in the Ile-de-France region is the famed Medieval holiday fair of Provins. This year it\u2019ll be taking place the weekend of December 10th and 11th. Over the course of the week the picturesque town east of the capital takes a journey back to Medieval times with costumed performances, music, artisans stands and food. The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arts-forains.com\/TESTS\/index_anglais.php?pages_anglais=visites_guidees_VA\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mus\u00e9e des Arts Forains<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a private museum of vintage funfair rides and related objects. If you saw Woody Allen\u2019s film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Midnight in Paris<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, then you\u2019ve already seen the venue, used for a party scene in the movie. The museum doesn\u2019t hold regular opening hours, but instead is usually open over the holiday season when it holds a magical event: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/arts-forains.com\/actualites\/festival-du-merveilleux-2022\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Le Festival du Merveilleux<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. From December 26th to January 2nd 2023, the museum (located near Bercy Village, another great place over the holidays!) will be open every day from 10am-6pm. It is beautifully decorated in festive flare, there are special performances food stands and the chance to try out some of the vintage rides.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2967\" style=\"width: 1090px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2967\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2967\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/paris-news\/files\/2022\/12\/318021040_505476134948844_1700601186710619624_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1080\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2967\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">La Villette Photo: Studio Toer Firefly field \u00a9 Vivid<\/p><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Unique Illuminations<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The light show put on during the holiday season doesn\u2019t only take place on the streets of Paris, this year there are two alternative \u201clight shows\u201d. Parc de La Villette is hosting a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lavillette.com\/programmation\/lumieres_e1547\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">light festival<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> which involves an immersive path through this modern park, lit by the illuminated creations by artists. It is taking place evenings from December 15th to January 1st, 2023 and on December 10th, you can get involved yourself during the lanterne festival\u00a0 (free event). The Jardin des Plantes is once again holding a special illuminated exhibition. On through January 15th, 2023, this historic park comes to life in the evening via giant illuminated animals. This year\u2019s theme is mini-insects in extra large size. Another association which provides meals, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miedepain.asso.fr\/\"><strong>la Mie de Pain<\/strong><\/a>, is often looking for volunteers for their Christmas Eve dinner service, which could be a nice option if you&#8217;re alone for the day.
