Or is it an outward embodiment of a true self? We are delighted to present a discussion on escapism and drag with <span style=\"color: black;font-family: Arial,helvetica neue,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><a href=\"https:\/\/kent.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=9da2374b50e9279d91920c33d&amp;id=558f3a21d9&amp;e=764f2e9344\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"8\">Charity Kase<\/a> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, 'helvetica neue', Helvetica, sans-serif\">and<\/span><span style=\"color: black;font-family: Arial,helvetica neue,Helvetica,sans-serif\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/kent.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=9da2374b50e9279d91920c33d&amp;id=2450b6511f&amp;e=764f2e9344\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"9\">Rosie Zinfandel<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>as the kick off to this year\u2019s festival.<\/p>\n<p>Charity Kase is a London based artist and performer with a punk aesthetic and taste for nightmarish beauty.\u00a0Charity first garner attention\u00a0in 2017 when they\u00a0completed a 365-day\u00a0drag challenge, creating a new character look every day of the year. Rosie Zinfandel made headlines in 2019 by\u00a0being crowned one of the three queens in the UK&#8217;s first ever\u00a0drag queen pageant. Scout is an American artist, painter and illustrator. For their work, they use crypto currency and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in order to create a unique value and identity for each artwork they produce. The film\u00a0documents the plight of\u00a0refugees camping in the Stalingrad district of Paris while waiting to regularise their situation.\u00a0It offers\u00a0powerful insight into modern day immigration and the hardships faced by those seeking to escape their circumstances and find refuge in Paris. In keeping with the\u00a0festival&#8217;s theme of Escapism, the film provides\u00a0multifaceted view into the human rights struggles that exist for disenfranchised peoples on a global scale. Yelena was born in Ukraine (former USSR) and immigrated to Wisconsin with her family as Jewish refugees in 1991. She studied theatre at Emerson College, Boston, and in France at the Lecoq School of Physical Theatre and Universite\u0301 Paris 8. She is the author of\u00a0<em>The Natashas\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Virtuoso<\/em>, which was longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize.<\/p>\n<p>This discussion will include a reading from her upcoming book\u00a0<em>A Door Behind a Door\u00a0<\/em>(to be released in the US on 18 May)\u00a0and will touch upon personal forms of escapism and ways to keep creative during lockdown. It will be followed by a Q&amp;A about life, writing, and literature. How is a world pushing against social contact rewiring our definition of connection and collaboration?
