He first got involved in film by making documentaries and collaborated on various projects with Romain Gavras (the son of Costa-Gavras), street artist JR and hip hop artist Oxmo Puccino. He made international headways in 2019 with his first feature film, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YFfdlLW9Rwg\"><em>Les Mis\u00e9rables,<\/em><\/a> a modern-day take on Victor Hugo classic novel of the same name. She is also a founding mem<span style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\">ber of the French branch of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Collectif_50\/50\">Coll\u00e9ctif <\/a><\/span>50\/50<span style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\">, a movement advocating for gender equality and diversity in the film industry. Her debut film, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4S9azoVd9es\"><em>Naissance des Pieuvres<\/em> <\/a>(<\/span><em>Water Lilies, <\/em><span style=\"font-style: italic;background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\">2007),<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\"> made at the age of 28, was selected for Cannes&#8217;s <\/span>Un certain regard<span style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\"> section and was nominated for three C\u00e9sar Awards. Written in only a few months and shot in less than three weeks, her 2011 film <\/span><em style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tomboy_(2011_film)\">Tomboy <\/a><\/em><span style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\">was an official selection at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival. Her work continued to garner more and more international recognition, with her 2014 film <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Girlhood_(film)\"><em>Bande de Filles<\/em> <\/a>(<em>Girlhood<\/em>) <\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\">screened in the Directors&#8217; Fortnight section of Cannes and at Sundance and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Her next feature film, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Portrait_of_a_Lady_on_Fire\"><em>Portrait de la jeune fille en feu<\/em><\/a> (<\/span><em style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\">Portrait of a Lady on Fire)<\/em><span style=\"font-style: italic;background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\">, <\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 1rem\">won the\u00a0Queer Palm\u00a0and\u00a0Best Screenplay at Cannes in 2019. She started off by making a series of short films, social satires on life in the suburbs, which were screened on major French TV channels. Her first feature film, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Divines_(film)\">Divines<\/a> <\/em>(2016), which she also co-wrote, was a powerful look at life in the suburbs and the prospects for its youth. It was selected for Quinzaine des r\u00e9alisateurs at Cannes, for which she won a Cam\u00e9ra d&#8217;Or. It was also awarded the C\u00e9sar for Best Film and was screened at TIFF. It received a number of accolades including the 2014 C\u00e9sar for a Short Film and a nomination in the same category at the Academy Awards. His first feature film,<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jusqu%27%C3%A0_la_garde\">Jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 la garde<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(<em>Custody<\/em>), released in 2017, was equally praised. Diop\u2019s youth spent in the infamous 3000 housing project led her to make her first film, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.film-documentaire.fr\/4DACTION\/w_fiche_film\/16220_1\">La Tour du monde<\/a> (The Tower of the World), <\/em>in 2005. After producing several other documentaries and a short film, her 2015 documentary <em><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vers_la_tendresse\">Vers la tendresse<\/a><\/em> (<em>Towards Tenderness)<\/em> won the C\u00e9sar for Best Short Film. Her latest film, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Nous_(film)&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Nous<\/a> (Us) <\/em>won the Best Film in the Encounters section of the Berlin International Film Festival 2021, but is yet to have a commercial release. Well-crafted screenplays, her films revolve around modern relationships. The spotlight was cast on Triet in 2013 with the release of her first feature film, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/La_Bataille_de_Solf%C3%A9rino\">La Bataille de Solf\u00e9rino<\/a> (Age of Panic).<\/em> It was screened at Cannes in the S\u00e9lection ACID (Association of the distribution of independent film) and she was featured in the influential <em>Cahiers du cin\u00e9ma<\/em> magazine as an up-and-coming talent to watch. Her second, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/In_Bed_with_Victoria\"><em>Victoria<\/em><\/a> (<em>In Bed With Victoria<\/em>), was the opening film in the Semaine de la critiques section at Cannes in 2016 and was nominated for five C\u00e9sars. Her third film, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sibyl_(2019_film)\">Sibyl<\/a>,<\/em> was selected for the official competition at Cannes in 2019.
