{"id":3881,"date":"2020-08-05T16:40:12","date_gmt":"2020-08-05T15:40:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/parentingculturestudies\/?page_id=3881"},"modified":"2025-07-31T10:24:34","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T09:24:34","slug":"10-year-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/parentingculturestudies\/about\/10-year-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"10 year anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The academic year 2020-21 marked 10 years of the <em>Centre for Parenting Culture Studies<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The idea for a Centre for Parenting Culture Studies was first discussed back in 2007, at an <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/parentingculturestudies\/pcs-events\/previous-events\/monitoring-parents\/\"><strong>international conference<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0held in Darwin College at the University of Kent. Called \u2018Monitoring Parents: Childrearing in the Age of Intensive Parenting\u2019 that event, as the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/parentingculturestudies\/files\/2010\/12\/Monitoring-parents-CFP.pdf\"><strong>Call for Papers<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0explained it, aimed to provide \u2018the opportunity for discussion of empirical and theoretical work that explores contemporary parenting culture\u2019 and one its aims was the \u2018development of a network of researchers with an interest in parenting culture\u2019. (There\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qYXHarSZIK8&amp;index=18&amp;list=PL55F74A40A1315F0B\"><strong>film<\/strong><\/a> of CPCS\u2019 Director Ellie Lee opening the event and talking about its aims here). The event turned out to be a big success, exceeding all our expectations and it was clear from it that there was a demand for a network of this sort, and we went on to form CPCS as a Kent University Research Centre in 2011.
