{"id":668,"date":"2022-07-28T10:50:27","date_gmt":"2022-07-28T10:50:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/pandora\/?p=668"},"modified":"2022-07-28T17:36:11","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T17:36:11","slug":"no-lockdown-loser-the-cheerful-melancholy-of-daisy-veacock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/pandora\/2022\/07\/28\/no-lockdown-loser-the-cheerful-melancholy-of-daisy-veacock\/","title":{"rendered":"No lockdown loser: the cheerful melancholy of Daisy Veacock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hailing from South London, singer-songwriter <strong>Daisy Veacock<\/strong> has been quietly releasing a series of tracks combining the emotional honesty (and delivery style) of Lily Allen with the jazz-infused spirit of Norah Jones since 2018.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-671\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/pandora\/files\/2022\/07\/daisy_veacock.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/>Her debut EP, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/40LA4nCb3dFzCFw3BgHLkC?si=X2sIqj8SRLyrn7zNA7KB6A\"><em>Lockdown Loser<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, reflecting on life (and released) during the pandemic, opens with that weighty injunction from Boris which issued forth from our television screens, &#8220;You <em>must<\/em> stay at home,&#8221; and lamenting sax leads into her trademark, clear-sighted, torchbeam of self-scrutiny. <em>couldn&#8217;t play it cool<\/em> sashays in with a summery smile, and the comfortable shuffle of\u00a0<em>you can&#8217;t come and stay<\/em> charts a relationship&#8217;s slow decline with remarkably good cheer. There&#8217;s a lovely Sunday-morning-relaxed vibe to <em>coffee in our underwear,\u00a0<\/em>and the album closes with the cheerful melancholia that&#8217;s an appealing feature of her music as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>As well as gigging around grassroots venues and festivals, last year Daisy was a support act for the august Jools Holland Rhythm &#8216;n Blues Orchestra.
