The University of Kent is delighted to be hosting a series of Royal Institution Mathematics Masterclasses. The masterclasses are designed to open young people\u2019s eyes to the excitement, beauty and value of mathematics through this year’s mathematics masterclasses. These will take place in-person at our Canterbury campus on the following dates:<\/p>\n

- Saturday the 28th of June<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Space School<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Wednesday 6th to Sunday 10th August<\/em><\/p>\n
Ever wanted to design, build and launch your own rochet? Then this event is for you!<\/p>\n
Join us as we plan an exciting mission to Mars, taking you through a condensed mission life cycle. You will get to programme rovers to navigate an obstacle course, research and propose a cubesat mission, and more!<\/p>\n
This event is completely free to attend, and lunch will be provided throughout the week. You will however have to make your own way to and from campus, though travel bursaries will be available to students who meet certain criteria.<\/p>\n
This opportunity is available to students who are between 14 and 17 years old and live in Kent. Considering there are limited places available, applicants who meet the university\u2019s widening participation criteria will be prioritised.<\/p>\n

Maths: What’s the Point?<\/strong><\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n
This mathematics-themed day gives Year 10 and 11 students the opportunity to explore the importance of maths, not only when it comes to sitting their GCSEs but also in real life contexts and careers beyond their time at school.<\/span><\/p>\n
This one-off event will be taking place on Friday 6th June 2025<\/b>\u00a0from 9.30am to 2.30pm at our Canterbury campus and is particularly suitable for students who want to better understand the benefits of continuing to study maths.<\/span><\/p>\n
If you’re interested in bringing a group of 15, 20 or 30 students, please email the organiser Katrine at k.l.solvaag@kent.ac.uk<\/a>\u00a0or outreach@kent.ac.uk<\/a>\u00a0to reserve a space or to ask any questions about this event which you may have. Should there be sufficient interest, we might organise a second date.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bioscience Work Experience Week<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Monday 4th to Friday 8th August<\/em><\/p>\n
This week offers budding scientists the opportunity to experience what it is like to study bioscience at university. As part of this week, you will: carry out your own mini research project in our undergraduate teaching laboratories, compete in an agar art competition, listen in on research talks, and produce your own research poster.<\/p>\n

Sixth Form Conference: Maths, Physics & Engineering<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This event will take place at the University\u00a0of Kent’s Canterbury campus on Tuesday 24th\u00a0June<\/strong>.\u00a0 The conference\u00a0will feature talks and hands-on activities related to mathematical sciences (including data science and actuarial science), physics and engineering.<\/p>\n
The conference is open to all Year 12 or L3 Year 1 pupils studying a relevant subject. More information, including details of some of the\u00a0conference\u00a0activities, can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
This event is free to attend, and we hope to be able to arrange parking on site for school mini busses (please let us know by email if you need us to arrange parking).
