{"id":2240,"date":"2024-01-04T13:01:34","date_gmt":"2024-01-04T13:01:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/outreach-news\/?p=2240"},"modified":"2024-01-04T16:42:12","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T16:42:12","slug":"stem-activities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/outreach-news\/2024\/01\/04\/stem-activities\/","title":{"rendered":"Subject Specific Outreach Offer &#8211; 2023\/24"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><strong>GCSE Science Practicals<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>On each of these visits, students will be offered the opportunity to complete a more advanced version of a GCSE Combined Science \/ Trilogy required practical in a university setting.<\/p>\r\n<p>Each practical will be offered as a full-day visit to our Canterbury campus with opportunities to work in and view university laboratories, talk with academics on how their research builds upon what is taught in the curriculum, and discuss the real-life applications of the relevant practical.<\/p>\r\n<p>Due to limited lab capacity, each practical will only be offered once a year. Additionally, the capacity for each practical will vary depending on the individual lab\u2019s limitations.<\/p>\r\n<p>This year we have the following practicals on offer:<br \/>\u2022 <em>Microscopy<\/em> on Friday the 19th of April<br \/>\u2022 <em>Reaction Time<\/em> on Wednesday the 15th of May<br \/>\u2022 <em>Who Killed Harry Styles?<\/em> on Friday the 12th of July<\/p>\r\n<p>For more information on these events, and to express your interest in attending, please use the following <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.monday.com\/forms\/40d985490d908da4869763df80775c0e?r=use1\">expression of interest form<\/a>. This form will remain open until mid February or until the events are fully booked, at which point all teachers will be informed of the outcome.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Chemistry Teacher Entropy Workshop<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>We will be hosting a 3-hour Entropy workshop for teachers of A-Level (or equivalent) Chemistry. Booking is not yet open, but you can register your interest <a href=\"https:\/\/wkf.ms\/3MJuwwp\">here.<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>This workshop is designed to support you introducing the topic of entropy and thermodynamics to your students, and will be run in the Undergraduate Teaching Labs on the Canterbury campus.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Engineering Campus Visit<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>This three hour campus visit is perfect for anyone seeking to learn more about engineering! Not only will you get to see our School of Engineering facilities at our Canterbury campus, but you will also have the opportunity to meet a variety of robots, discover how they function and learn more about how they are used.<\/p>\r\n<p>There are two variations of this campus visit: one for younger years (Year 7 through to Year 9) and one for older years (Year 10 and upwards).<\/p>\r\n<p>Both variations include a demonstration of the university\u2019s Omron robot, as well as a lab tour and presentation.
