Following this, students had the opportunity to get involved with subject taster seminars in Classics focusing on the Roman era, and in Philosophy that explored the subject through ‘though experiments’. After a quick break for lunch, they were then taken on a campus tour with student ambassadors who showed them facilities such as the library, bookstore and sports centre. To finish the day, ambassadors ran a Q+A session so that students were able to ask questions that may not have been addressed earlier in the visit. They came up with lots of different questions such as ‘how much does university cost’ and ‘is it easy to make friends’ which ambassadors answered using their own experiences of being a university student.

Feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive with one parent stating that their child ‘found it very eye opening and he now decided that going to university is for him. I firmly believe that now that he has a goal to achieve, he will do much better academically and will be more focused during his lessons. No amount of talking and explaining can do the same as this one school trip has done!’

We look forward to welcoming the school back to campus for more visits in the near future.

For more information about this activity, please contact outreach@kent.ac.uk.

On Thursday 17 January, a mixture of 40 year 9 and 10 students from Fulston Manor School visited the University of Kent’s Canterbury campus.
