Throughout the Summer term, the Partnership Development Office organise many outreach events for local secondary schools. The first of these events started on Monday 19 June at our Canterbury campus where 48 year 12 students attended the Text and Language Day run in collaboration with the school of English Language and Linguistics.
All the students were current A Level students studying either English Language or English Literature and they had the chance to experience seminars, workshops and lectures run by academics from English Language and Linguistics, Comparative Literature and English Literature. They learnt about the fictional Elvish Language, applied critical theory to poetry, analysed the plot of Shrek, discovered that there is no word for Blue in Russian . . . and much more!
