On Tuesday 8 November, the University of Kent welcomed 50 year 8 students from schools across Kent and Medway to the Cultural Connections Event. The event, funded by the ESRC Festival of Social Science, the Partnership Development Office and the Gulbenkian Theatre aimed to encourage students to explore current issues surrounding refugees. Students enjoyed using storytelling and drama methods to learn about migrant experiences and had the opportunity to meet refugees who shared their own personal stories. The positive feedback from this event suggests that students benefitted from the day and came to recognise and emphasise with the hardships that migrants face integrating into a new environment.
