The University are delighted to be hosting the 2016 FIRST© LEGO© League competition (Kent and Medway) on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 December 2016. In preparation for the competition the Launch Event for team leaders and teachers will be held on our Canterbury Campus on Wednesday 14 September from 17.30-19.00.
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a global science and technology challenge for teams of students which aims to encourage an interest in real world issues and to develop key skills for future careers. The 2016 theme is ‘Animal Allies’, and details of the Challenge are now globally available following their release on 30 August. A comprehensive set of instructions, as well as a guide and other resources, can be downloaded from the tournament website at http://www.firstlegoleague.org/challenge. In addition to competing in The Robot Game, teams will be required to complete The Project, which involves identifying a problem when people and animals interact, designing a solution and sharing these with others.
The Launch Event is aimed at supporting local team leaders and will provide an introduction to FIRST LEGO League as well as more detailed information regarding the individual challenges. There will be a chance to see the layout of the competition table and the opportunity to talk to members of staff from the University of Kent School of Computing, to meet key individuals involved in the South East Regional Lego League and to network with other team leaders and coaches. Whilst the Launch Event is primarily organised for team leaders who have already registered for the competition, we can also offer a limited number of places to those who are new to Lego League and who would like to find out more about the tournament before committing to registration.
Registration for the competition is made directly on the FLL website. If you require any additional information, or would be interested in attending the launch on 14 September, please contact outreach@kent.ac.uk.
