Studio Three Gallery at the School of Arts at the University of Kent is inviting schools and colleges to come to the Canterbury campus for a one-day interactive workshop to enhance visual literacy and aesthetic sensibility. These workshops, which are based around the studio’s upcoming exhibition, can be adapted to include elements of the curriculum and are suitable for students of all ages who are studying Art, Media Studies, History of Art or Design.
The upcoming exhibition Catching Flies (10 June – 31 July) is an interactive exploration around the theme of distractions. We are constantly bombarded by multicoloured information: instagram, facebook, fluorescent signs and advertising. Our brains are often in overdrive. This exhibition, which will display digital and interactive works, raises questions about the consequences of being constantly distracted and the limits of our concentration.
The workshop will include a tour of the gallery, a talk by the student-curators about organising the exhibition, and a workshop that aims to enhance visual literacy in an interactive and fun way.
