Literacy Support – Classical Tales in the English Curriculum, a Teacher Development Workshop

Teachers, Senior Staff and Literacy Leads are invited to join us for a free 2-hour workshop aimed at RAISING ACHIEVEMENT and INSPIRING CREATIVITY through storytelling and classical mythology in the English curriculum at Key Stage 3. No prior knowledge of classics or mythology is needed; everything you will need for the workshop and to use these resources in your school will be made available on the day.

In this workshop, educators will explore how the mythology of ancient Greece and Rome and the literature of Ovid and Homer can help to

  • Raise achievement among mid- and low-attaining students,
  • Develop literacy skills through speaking and listening,
  • Introduce classical seminal world literature to students, and
  • Inspire creativity in response to literature.

On the day, you will: Receive free Classical Tales teaching resources,

  • Hear from other teachers about how use of the materials improved and enriched teaching,
  • Explore practical activities for use with your learners, and
  • Network with like-minded educators, keep up to date with resources and find out how they fit with the latest curriculum requirements.

At the end of the workshop, we will make plans to support you in using the Classical Tales resources in your classroom through the 2020 Creativity with Classical Tales Competition, which includes a one-day visit to the University of Kent for your students!

We are planning to hold the workshop in June, so please fill in this doodle poll (https://doodle.com/poll/975vkadmhtxuwf5g) with your name and email to let us know what dates work best for you.
