On the 30 and 31 of January, the University of Kent’s outreach team delivered several ‘Build a University’ workshops to Year 8 students at The Leigh UTC. The hour-long workshop serves as an introduction to higher education and prepared participants for a visit to the University which we are hosting for 140 of the same pupils on 26 June 2019. During the workshop, students learn about the differences between campus and city universities and explore the types of facilities available by creating their own university in groups. They are also given the chance to present their ideas back to the class which helps them to improve their public speaking and team working skills.
Feedback from the school was positive, with staff stating the sessions went ‘really well’ and that students did benefit from having the opportunity to interact with student ambassadors. The outreach team were delighted to be able to work with so many students within the Inspiration Academy as we look to ensure that our partnership, which started in the 2018/19 academic year, continues to benefit all of those involved.
