STEM Opportunities

Sixth Form Conference: Maths, Physics & Engineering

This conference is a day-long face-to-face event, with talks and hands-on activities where you’ll discover more about research and hot topics in mathematics, data science, actuarial science, physics and engineering. There will be a mix of short lectures and workshops, as well as opportunities to find out more what it would be like to study these subjects at university.

This one-off event will be taking place on Tuesday 24th June 2025 from 9.30am to 3pm at our Canterbury campus and is particularly suitable for students currently studying maths, physics and/or engineering.

Each college will be able to bring up towards 15 students each. To enrol onto the conference, please email Katrine at k.l.solvaag@kent.ac.uk or outreach@kent.ac.uk with your estimated number of students.

Space School

This week offers a wonderful opportunity for budding scientists to spend a week constructing and launching their own rocket.

Space School is completely free to attend, with lunch provided to all applicants. However, applicants will be expected to make their own way to and from campus.

This opportunity is available to students who are between 14 and 17 years in age and live in Kent. Considering there are limited places available, applicants who meet the university’s widening participation criteria will be prioritised.

The next Space School will be held on our Canterbury campus in August 2025. Sign-up here, or via the QR code to be notified when the application form goes live!

Level 3: Bioscience Work Experience Week

This week offers a wonderful opportunity for budding scientists to spend a week carrying out their own mini research project in our undergraduate teaching laboratory. In addition to this, students will be given the opportunity to compete in an agar art competition, listen in on research talks, and produce their own research poster.

The Bioscience Work Experience Week is completely free to attend, with lunch provided to all applicants. However, applicants will be expected to make their own way to and from campus.

This opportunity is available to Y12/L3 students from schools and colleges within Kent studying science. Considering there are limited places available, applicants who meet the university’s widening participation criteria will be prioritised.

The next work experience week will be held on our Canterbury campus from Monday the 4th to Friday the 8th August 2025. Sign-up here, or via the QR code to be notified when the application form goes live!

Level 3: Medical Ethics Pilot

The Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) are thrilled to be piloting a brand-new Medical Ethics session! This interactive opportunity will allow students to explore real-world ethical dilemmas in medicine. If your college would like to arrange a KMMS talk or take part in this exciting pilot, please get in touch — we’d love to hear from you!
