Targeted Outreach Offer

Targeted Outreach Programmes, Webinars and Clearing Support

Dramatherapy for care experienced young people

Rowan Tree Dramatherapy, in partnership with University of Kent and The Gulbenkian Arts Centre, are pleased to announce a new programme of group dramatherapy supporting care experienced young people.

The programme offers the opportunity for a cohesive, healthy group experience with other young people who have a shared experience of the care system andĀ aims to support a sense of belonging, reduce feelings of isolation and develop a positive sense of self. Each group supports the mental health of this community at a transitional time in their lives where we often see a breakdown in emotional well being alongside a reduction in professional support for 18+.

Opening Doors Webinars for care experienced young people and their supporters

The Kent and Medway Progression Federation, in collaboration with University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University and University for the Creative Arts, work together on the Opening Doors series of activities to support care experienced young people into higher education. Our upcoming Opening Doors Webinars are a series of free online sessions aimed at care experienced young people who are looking to start university soon, and their supporters (carers and professionals). The sessions are aimed at providing carers with the tools to empower young people to make the right choices on their educational journey.

Clearing Support for care experienced and estranged students

If you have any care leaver or estranged students who are going through clearing, they can speak directly to Shauna-Aine O’Brien (Targeted Outreach Manager and designated member of staff for care experienced and estranged students pre-registration) to learn more about support, accommodation, and student finance at University of Kent. If your students would like to meet with Shauna ahead of clearing, they can email her to arrange a meeting any time.

Shauna will be available on phone and email on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 August – 01227 827135 and on email at any time stjo@kent.ac.uk.
