Drop Everything and Read

Stipend Ambassador, George Sharp, takes inspiration from the Drop Everything and Read programme the Outreach team are doing to see how we can get Ambassadors involved

Do you find yourself watching movies and TV shows and coming out of the experience with lots of questions and theories you want to discuss with people? You are not alone! We are setting up a group where people who are interested can vote on a movie or tv show to watch, and as a group, discuss our theories. If we get enough interest, then we will be setting up a chat where we can discuss all things movie and TV related! There could be watchlists, live viewings of movies/TV shows and anything else in between!

We will also be setting up a similar group, but with books and literature instead! It will be part of a project/idea called Drop Everything and Read. DEaR is a nationwide initiative that encourages everyone to take a break from the stresses of every day and pick up a book for 30 minutes that they love to read. If you are more of a bookworm than a movie guru then why not join this group of like-minded people and discuss your monthly/weekly/daily reading? You could choose to take part yourself, or if you would like to, you could even get more involved. After speaking to a representative of the movement at our university, it seemed there were some possibilities of some of our ambassadors to help out with the movement itself. DEaR has done a lot of good for those students in secondary school that maybe don’t get the time to read for fun. DEaR allows them to read something that isn’t core material whilst still improving their reading age.

There is also a booklet with a reading list of different texts that teachers set for their students to read and engage with, so maybe it would also be fun to get some ambassadors to read these texts themselves and record a reaction/review to share with the students in order to get them more involved while the movement has been moved online! If you love to read, then this is for you!

If you are interested in either of these groups then here is a link for a doodle poll!

Just tick off which group you are interested in getting involved in and should get enough interest, you will be added to a chat where we can get started!

Finally, the following is the new collaborative ambassador playlist! Use this playlist to add any songs that make you relax, jump, study, dance, headbang, sleep, mosh, sing or just make you happy. Add as many as you want and share them with your fellow ambassadors! Make sure to follow the playlist or you won’t be able to add anything! We hope that this playlist will be a source of joy for you when you need to be positive, after all, that’s what music does.
