The School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research have created a wide range of taster lectures for students in Years 11 and 12 which focus on key topics on the GCSE and A-level curricula in sociology, psychology, and health and social care. The lectures can be delivered to your students at your school at a time and date to suit you, topic examples include:
- Social Work – Do your students want to make a difference in people’s lives? Do they believe in social justice? Experienced social work academics will share what it means to pursue a career in social work by joining one of the UK’s leading social work programmes.
- Criminal Justice and Criminology – Do your students want to have an insight into what crime is and how it can be prevented? Are they interested in criminology related careers in prisons, probation, research and policing? Research active Criminologists will share their research on various topics of interest in the area of crime and deviance more broadly such as the rise of girl gangs in London or the effectiveness of crime prevention strategies, whilst giving an insight on enrolling on the Criminal Justice and Criminology programme at Kent.
- Social Sciences – Are your students interested in how policies to tackle important aspects of our human lives such as poverty and social inequality come about? What factors have largely informed such policies historically? Leading Social Scientists will be able to provide presentations related to areas of family and parenting policy developments, the history of welfare policies, researching streets, communities or markets, drug policy and psychology. They will also be happy to discuss careers in psychology, teaching, social research, civil service, local government and Non-Governmental organizations (NGOs).
