A Level French Translation Competition

The University of Kent’s Department of French will be running a Translation Competition in Autumn 2018 for A Level students. The pupils will translate a short passage by contemporary author Patrick Chamoiseau. The passage will be sent to teachers, along with an optional lesson plan including language exercises and some brief introductory material. There will be a cash prize of £50 for the winners and £10 for two runners-up, and a book will be presented to their school libraries.
After the competition, local entrants will be invited to a translation workshop at the University of Kent to discuss the passage and learn more about the author.

There is also the option of an in-school launch event for local schools. The competition opens on European Day of Languages on 26 September. The deadline for entries will be 1st December and the winners will be announced in January 2019. An optional translation workshop for entrants from Kent will be organized in March 2019.
