Research Project Preparation Course

We are pleased to announce a new opportunity for Partner and KMPPF Schools. The Research Project Preparation Course is aimed at all students who would benefit from developing their research skills through the guided completion of a small piece of independent research. This would include students who are expected to undertake an independent study as part of their A-level studies (such as History students), those students taking the IBCP (Reflective Project component) and students opting for the Extended Project Qualification. The course is led by Postgraduate Students from the University of Kent, and supported by student ambassadors.

The course is comprised of five sessions, summarised below:

  • Session 1 – Develop a ‘good’ research question
  • Session 2 – Conduct a literature review
  • Session 3 – Develop a methodology
  • Session 4 – Analyse data and form conclusions
  • Session 5 – Presentation to peers

The project can  take place at any time during the academic year (subject to staff availability). All sessions (apart from session 2) are school-based and last for approximately 2 hours. Session 2 is ideally a campus visit (at Medway or Canterbury) and would take place from 09:45-14:45.

Students will be expected to design and complete a small-scale research study, including the presenting of their findings. (Students can be given the option to either complete a short written report or create a poster to display their findings). All students would be expected to verbally present their findings to their peers at the end of the process.
