Introduction to Comparative Literature

The Department of Comparative Literature is offering two introductory workshops to challenge and inspire students of English:

Dystopian Literature
This workshop introduces students to the idea of the dystopia, exploring contemporary fiction and popular culture. Students will discover the tropes of a dystopia, analyse texts, and have a go at creating a dystopia of their own.

Adapting Shakespeare for a Modern Audience
This workshop introduces students to translation theory and explores how this might apply to modern adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays for popular culture. This workshop can be tailored to plays students have studied, and can incorporate texts by other authors.

Both of these workshops can be held at school or the University of Kent Canterbury campus and are available for students Years 10 to 13.
