This practical based two-day session allows students to investigate and test the effectiveness of cleaning reagents on classroom surfaces. Allowing students to create their own observations and conclusions from the experiment.
Students will plan and carry out an experiment to test the effectiveness of cleaning reagents. Students will have pre-made agar plates and take swabs from different areas of their classroom and smear over the agar plate. Students will then take another swab after cleaning the surface that the previous swab was taken from. The plates will then be taken back to the University and will be incubated for a day at 37°C.
The plates will then be brought back the day after for session two and students will write their observations and draw conclusions.
Sessions can be expanded depending on the preference of the school.
