Forensics Day

The School of Anthropology and Conservation will be running the following event on either Wednesday 21 June or Monday 17 July 2017.  If you are interested, please contact Michael Collingwood (mc404@kent.ac.uk), stating which date you would prefer and/or if you could attend either date.

Description: Students will take part in two workshop sessions during the day:

Workshop 1: Forensic Anthropology methods
This is a laboratory based course held at the Skeletal Biology Research Centre of the School of Anthropology and Conservation, University of Kent, Canterbury. The course is designed for secondary school students with limited or no knowledge, but significant interest, in osteology and forensic anthropology. Topics include human versus non-human osteology, skeletal inventory, estimation of biological characteristics (age, sex, ancestry, stature), identification methods, and trauma interpretation. Participants will gain hands-on training by examining human remains during the session.

Workshop 2: Wildlife Forensics
This is an interactive session based at the School of Anthropology and Conservation on the Canterbury campus. The session is designed for secondary school students with limited or no knowledge, but significant interest, in wildlife, conservation and conflict. Topics include an introduction to conservation, endangered wildlife, potential solutions, case study-based activities. Participants will gain hands on experience by formulating their own wildlife conservation solutions and ideas.
