Free access to knowledge and open communication between researchers drive creativity, innovation, and development. ScienceOpen is a research discovery platform with over 52 million article records that promotes open science by facilitating open and public communication across all scholarly disciplines and between all stakeholders \u2013 including academics and scholarly publishers.<\/p>\n

With smart search and filtering tools that make research easily discoverable across over 52 million article records, ScienceOpen<\/a> is a user-friendly accessible platform \u2013 for researchers and non-academic knowledge explorers alike. Interactive features<\/a> for the research community include researcher-led Collections, post-publication peer review, commenting, recommending, and rating scholarly articles. Every user can search and read metadata and Open Access articles and share them with others via e-mail or social media. Users are invited to add to the context of an article by commenting, reviewing, recommending, or adding to a curated Collection of research articles.<\/p>\n

Registration and the use of collaboration and networking tools are completely free of charge. To create a space for reliable and transparent scholarly discourse that prevents misuse of our reviewing and commenting functions, registration at ScienceOpen requires a previous registration at ORCiD<\/a>, a non-profit organization that provides unique researcher identifiers. Only authenticated researchers registered at ScienceOpen via ORCiD with at least 5 articles assigned to their ORCiD account (see our User categories<\/a>) may officially review a paper. Members with at least one publication assigned to their ORCiD account can comment on a paper.<\/p>\n

Community Curation<\/h1>\n

ScienceOpen\u2019s unique researcher-led<\/strong> Collections <\/strong>drive discovery of specific research. Collections<\/a> are started by either a single editor or a group of editors on ScienceOpen who can select articles and preprints from over 52 million records or add any missing content. Editors have full curatorial responsibility over their Collections. They select relevant research, comment on articles to highlight their scholarly importance, can write an editorial describing the scope and aim of the collection, and encourage the circulation of research through peer review and sharing with their scientific circle. Any researcher can share their expertise by writing an article review on ScienceOpen. Collection editors have the possibility of managing post-publication article reviews for their Collection. Featured Collections<\/strong> provide publishers<\/a> with flexible curation tools to promote a single journal title or a field of research that combines content from multiple publications. Featured collections are promoted with banners on all relevant articles within the 52 million articles in our database. A \u201cSubmit manuscript<\/strong>\u201d button on the collection page that leads to the publisher\u2019s submission system makes it possible for new authors to contribute to a journal.<\/p>\n

ScienceOpen creates a contextual environment for research content by tracking citations between all the articles and records within the database. ScienceOpen also provides Altmetric<\/a> scores on all articles, making search results filterable by social media mentions. This unique combination of filtering options gives users a broader picture of the online attention surrounding a given research field.<\/p>\n
