Welcome to the\u00a0Research Group on Orthogonal Polynomials, Special Functions and Operator Theory and Applications <\/strong>based in the UK and Leuven (Belgium), Lille (France) and Nijmegen (the Netherlands). The group was initially supported by a London Mathematical Society<\/a> Joint Research Groups grant<\/em>, then by the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS)<\/a> and from January 2023 by the Isaac Newton Institute (INI)<\/a><\/strong> through the\u00a0INI Network Support for Mathematical Sciences<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The group consists of a mixture of applied and pure analysis groups working on the modern theory of orthogonal polynomials and special functions, operator theory and their remarkable applications to other fields of mathematics including analytic number theory, random matrix theory and mathematical physics.\u00a0The goal is to create a forum of discussion focused on the fruitful interactions between numerical analysis and approximation theory, operator theory, spectral methods and the modern theory of orthogonal polynomials and special functions. In many of those intersections, the use of complex analysis, especially the powerful machinery of Riemann-Hilbert analysis, has been vital to deal with a remarkable number of problems in random matrix theory, analytic number theory and mathematical physics.<\/p>\n
