{"id":7579,"date":"2016-06-08T11:35:24","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T10:35:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=7579"},"modified":"2016-06-08T12:19:18","modified_gmt":"2016-06-08T11:19:18","slug":"summer-music-week-day-three","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2016\/06\/08\/summer-music-week-day-three\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Music Week: Day Three"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Colyer-Fergusson welcomed donors, supporters and friends to the University Music Department yesterday, as they gathered on Day Three of Summer Music Week for the annual Music Scholars&#8217; Lunchtime Recital.<\/p>\n<p>A wonderfully exploratory programme opened with second-year <strong>Jonathan Butten<\/strong> giving a lyrical solo <em>cor anglais<\/em> performance, followed by final-year <strong>Anne Engels<\/strong> in two pieces of French flute repertoire by Poulenc and Messiaen. The atmosphere turned sultry with a Piazzollla piano trio, featuring second-year cellist <strong>Faith Chan<\/strong> and first-year violinist <strong>Lydia Cheng<\/strong>, with Your Loyal Correspondent on piano, before a kitchen-sink finale highlighting diverse repertoire for solo percussion by third-year <strong>Cory Adams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7584\" Awards ceremony, recognising the outstanding contribution made by various student musicians over the course of this year, about which more anon, before audience and performers retired to a post-ceremony reception.<\/p>\n<p>Summer Music Week continues today with live jazz at lunchtime, followed this evening by the roof-raising gala from the Concert and Big Bands.<\/p>\n<ul
