{"id":7427,"date":"2016-03-22T14:26:57","date_gmt":"2016-03-22T14:26:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=7427"},"modified":"2016-03-22T16:02:10","modified_gmt":"2016-03-22T16:02:10","slug":"wild-wild-west-american-themed-concert-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2016\/03\/22\/wild-wild-west-american-themed-concert-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Wild Wild West: American-themed concert next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Grab your horses, wield your lasso and hold on to your hats as the <strong>University Chorus and Orchestra<\/strong> bring a programme of American music to Colyer-Fergusson Hall next week.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7428\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2016\/03\/Yee-Haa-226x300.jpg\" alt=\"Yee-Haa\" width=\"226\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2016\/03\/Yee-Haa-226x300.jpg 226w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2016\/03\/Yee-Haa.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 226px) 100vw, 226px\" \/>On <strong>Sunday 3 April<\/strong> at 3pm, the hour-long afternoon family concert (to which children under 10 go free) will feature popular American music, with Copland\u2019s <em>Hoe-Down<\/em> from &#8216;Rodeo&#8217; and three of his folk songs, together with a medley from Bernstein\u2019s <em>West Side Story<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Also joining the programme will be pianist <strong>Helen Crayford<\/strong> (whose lunchtime concert <em>From Rags To Riches<\/em>, celebrating the music of Scott Joplin et al, was a popular hit last year), who will ride up (well, not literally, perhaps&#8230;) to join the Orchestra and conductor Susan Wanless for a performance of Gershwin\u2019s brilliant, jazzy <em>Rhapsody in Blue<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7429\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7429\" style=\"width: 100px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-7429\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2016\/03\/Helen-Crayford.gif\" alt=\"Helen Crayford\" width=\"100\" height=\"128\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7429\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Helen Crayford<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The performance will be very informal and a great way to experience these exciting pieces \u2013 whatever your age! Join the performers afterwards for brownies and cookies in the foyer. Tickets are \u00a38 , students \u00a35 and free for children under 10.
