{"id":7077,"date":"2015-12-07T10:16:37","date_gmt":"2015-12-07T10:16:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=7077"},"modified":"2015-12-07T10:21:34","modified_gmt":"2015-12-07T10:21:34","slug":"a-christmas-cracker-of-a-baroque-concert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2015\/12\/07\/a-christmas-cracker-of-a-baroque-concert\/","title":{"rendered":"A Christmas cracker of a Baroque concert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Cecilian Choir<\/strong> and <strong>Sinfonia<\/strong> rose to the occasion in splendid fashion last Friday, and delivered a scintillating concert full of festive Baroque favourites to launch Christmas music-making from the Music department.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7088 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/12\/BaroqueChristmas_Dec2015.jpg\" alt=\"BaroqueChristmas_Dec2015\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/12\/BaroqueChristmas_Dec2015.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/12\/BaroqueChristmas_Dec2015-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Excerpts from Part One of Handel&#8217;s <em>Messiah<\/em> were combined with instrumental concerti by Vivaldi, with four out of the five soloists being drawn from the School of BioSciences &#8211; second-year oboist and National Youth Orchestra member <strong>Jonathan Butten<\/strong>, second-year singing Scholarship students <strong>Charlotte Webb<\/strong> and <strong>Ruth Webster<\/strong>, and Senior Lecturer in BioSciences, oboist <strong>Dan\u00a0Lloyd<\/strong>.
