{"id":6682,"date":"2015-05-27T15:26:57","date_gmt":"2015-05-27T14:26:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=6682"},"modified":"2015-05-28T16:01:41","modified_gmt":"2015-05-28T15:01:41","slug":"love-at-studio-3-music-scholars-arias-recital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2015\/05\/27\/love-at-studio-3-music-scholars-arias-recital\/","title":{"rendered":"Love at Studio 3: Music Scholars arias recital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jarman&#8217;s Studio 3 Gallery rang to the tempestuous world of love and loss at the opera at lunchtime today, as several of the Music Scholars presented a selection of operatic arias to an enthralled audience.<\/p>\n<p>Against the backdrop of the current exhibition, <em>Beautifully Obscene: a history of the Erotic Print<\/em>, several of the singing Scholars brought characters including Delilah, Despina, Orpheus, Dido and Rusalka to life in a programme ranging from the poignancy of Mozart&#8217;s <em>Porgi Amor<\/em> (sung\u00a0with authority by\u00a0first-year <strong>Charlotte Webb<\/strong>) through an extremely coquettish <em>Una donna a quindici anni<\/em> from &#8216;Cosi fan tutte&#8217; Handel&#8217;s <em>Bel Piacere<\/em> had a joyous conviviality in the hands of third-year <strong>Philippa Hardimann<\/strong>; final-year <strong>Kathryn Cox<\/strong> soared to the heights with Rusalka&#8217;s <em>Song to the Moon<\/em>; there was a lyrical reading of Mozart&#8217;s <em>Deh vieni<\/em> by third-year <strong>Rowena Murrell;\u00a0<\/strong>and second-year <strong>Charley Tench<\/strong> gave an affecting, intimate performance of <em>Dido&#8217;s Lament<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-6256\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/01\/Studio3.jpg\" alt=\"Studio3\" width=\"149\" height=\"74\" \/>Our thanks to Katie McGown and the team at Studio 3 for the invitation to continue the #EarBox series of collaborative events, of which there will be more.
