{"id":6492,"date":"2015-03-16T16:01:54","date_gmt":"2015-03-16T15:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=6492"},"modified":"2015-03-16T16:16:24","modified_gmt":"2015-03-16T15:16:24","slug":"then-comes-the-day-chamber-choir-crypt-concert-this-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2015\/03\/16\/then-comes-the-day-chamber-choir-crypt-concert-this-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"Then Comes The Day: Chamber Choir Crypt Concert this Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s no respite in the calendar of performing commitments; fresh from Saturday&#8217;s epic\u00a0Colyer-Fergusson Concert, the <strong>University Chamber Choir<\/strong> returns to the Cathedral Crypt this coming Friday for an evocative programme, <em>Then Comes The Day<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The title of the concert is taken from a line in the <em>Hymn to the Virgin<\/em>, &#8216;Darkest night \/ Then comes the day,&#8217; which features in the concert,\u00a0representing the triumph of optimism over despair in a programme that commemorates European countries involved in the First World War. Your Loyal Correspondent will be joined in conducting duties by fourth-year Music Scholar <strong>Emma Murton<\/strong> to fill the ancient and echoing spaces of the Cathedral Crypt with what promises to be a vividly expressive sequence of music.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/03\/Chamber_Choir_2014web_square.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6493\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/03\/Chamber_Choir_2014web_square.jpg\" alt=\"Chamber_Choir_2014web_square\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/03\/Chamber_Choir_2014web_square.jpg 448w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/03\/Chamber_Choir_2014web_square-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>From the Renaissance austerity of Tallis&#8217; <em>Nine Tunes for Archbishop Parker&#8217;s Psalter<\/em> through to the contemporary\u00a0colours of Jussi Chydenius, Friday&#8217;s concert travels through England, France, Germany, Italy and Finland, and will include Schutz&#8217;\u00a0glorious <em>Jauchzet den Herren, <\/em>earthy part-songs by Lassus, Stanford&#8217;s purple-hued <em>The Blue Bird<\/em> and works by Purcell, JC Bach and Elgar.
