{"id":6436,"date":"2015-03-05T13:06:55","date_gmt":"2015-03-05T12:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=6436"},"modified":"2015-03-05T13:06:55","modified_gmt":"2015-03-05T12:06:55","slug":"all-that-jazz-the-geoff-mason-quintet-coming-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2015\/03\/05\/all-that-jazz-the-geoff-mason-quintet-coming-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"All that jazz: the Geoff Mason Quintet coming next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our next lunchtime concert on<strong> Weds 11 March<\/strong> sees trombonist <strong>Geoff Mason<\/strong> bring his quintet to Colyer-Fergusson for what promises to be a mouth-watering gig.<\/p>\n<p>A regular with the Ronnie Scott&#8217;s Big Band, Geoff Mason is widely regarded as the leading exponent of &#8216;Blue Note Era&#8217; jazz in the UK, named for legendary sound engineer Ruby van Gelder&#8217;s recordings by players such as Lee Konitz, Dexter Gordon, Freddie\u00a0Hubbard\u00a0and Cannonball Adderley during the 1950s and 60s.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6437\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/03\/Geoff-Mason-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Geoff Mason\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/03\/Geoff-Mason-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/03\/Geoff-Mason-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The quintet line-up reads like a veritable &#8216;Who&#8217;s Who&#8217; of British jazz, and includes drummer <strong>Trevor Tomkins<\/strong>, saxophonist <strong>Simon Spillett<\/strong> and pianist <strong>John Horler<\/strong>.
