{"id":6329,"date":"2015-02-13T11:44:09","date_gmt":"2015-02-13T10:44:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=6329"},"modified":"2015-02-17T10:33:40","modified_gmt":"2015-02-17T09:33:40","slug":"listen-here-handels-silete-venti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2015\/02\/13\/listen-here-handels-silete-venti\/","title":{"rendered":"Listen here: Handel&#8217;s &#8216;Silete Venti&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ahead of <strong>CantiaQuorum<\/strong>&#8216;s concert next week, listen to Handel&#8217;s <em>Silete Venti <\/em>which will appear in the ensemble&#8217;s programme next Friday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/02\/Handel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-6330\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2015\/02\/Handel.jpg\" alt=\"Handel\" width=\"150\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a>The wonderfully bustling<em> fugato<\/em> opening, depicting the wind scurrying through the branches, is interrupted at two and a half minutes into the opening sinfonia by the soprano, as she bids them &#8216;be silent.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Just before the six-minute mark, the wonderful aria <em>Dulcis amor<\/em> shows Handel in sublime melodic form, as does <em>Date serta, date flores<\/em> (Give garlands, give flowers), starting at 13&#8242; 09&#8221;, which later becomes dramatic and highy flamboyant for both soloist and ensemble alike, before the piece concludes with a sprightly <em>Alleluia<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"kent-video-wrapper\"><span class='embed-youtube' style='text-align:center; display: block;'><iframe class='youtube-player' type='text\/html' width='474' height='297' src='https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bG0hU8E22t4?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;wmode=transparent' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen='true'><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>Soprano Susanna Hurrell (currently to be heard in <strong><a title=\"Read Guardian review\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2014\/mar\/26\/ormindo-francesco-cavalli-opera-wanamaker-playhouse-review\" target=\"_blank\">the Royal Opera&#8217;s production of <em>L&#8217;Ormindo<\/em><\/a><\/strong>) will be the soloist with CantiaQuorum next week; it promises to be wonderful opportunity to hear this astonishing piece performed live.
