{"id":6201,"date":"2014-12-14T09:52:24","date_gmt":"2014-12-14T08:52:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=6201"},"modified":"2014-12-14T10:01:45","modified_gmt":"2014-12-14T09:01:45","slug":"alumni-soloists-return-for-december-concert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2014\/12\/14\/alumni-soloists-return-for-december-concert\/","title":{"rendered":"Alumni soloists return for December concert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The termly concert by the University Chorus and Orchestra last night saw three musical alumni returning to the Colyer-Fergusson Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Soprano <strong>Caroline Kennedy<\/strong>, tenor <strong>Andrew Macnair<\/strong> and bass <strong>Piran Legg<\/strong> came back to Kent for a performance of Mozart&#8217;s <em>Vespers<\/em>, joined also by mezzo\u00a0<strong>Bethan Langford<\/strong>.\u00a0whilst the Orchestra furnished the remainder of the programme with Mozart&#8217;s overture to <em>The Magic Flute<\/em> and Beethoven&#8217;s Seventh Symphony.<\/p>\n<p>Under the baton of Sue Wanless, the Orchestra delivered a sprightly and rousing reading of the Beethoven, in particular with an agile second movement that deftly steered clear of the more usual funereal tempi often heard in performance.
