{"id":5774,"date":"2014-04-22T09:57:21","date_gmt":"2014-04-22T08:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=5774"},"modified":"2014-04-22T09:57:21","modified_gmt":"2014-04-22T08:57:21","slug":"sounds-new-coming-to-the-colyer-fergusson-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2014\/04\/22\/sounds-new-coming-to-the-colyer-fergusson-building\/","title":{"rendered":"Sounds New coming to the Colyer-Fergusson Building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The annual Sounds New Festival of Contemporary Music will blossom around Canterbury towards the end of next week, and we&#8217;re very excited to be a partner in this year&#8217;s festival as it brings two vibrant headline concerts to the Colyer-Fergusson Building.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-5775\" style=\"width: 113px;height: 112px\" alt=\"SoundsNewlogo_2014\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2014\/04\/SoundsNewlogo_2014.png\" width=\"195\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2014\/04\/SoundsNewlogo_2014.png 204w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2014\/04\/SoundsNewlogo_2014-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2014\/04\/SoundsNewlogo_2014-144x144.png 144w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 195px) 100vw, 195px\" \/>The boundary-trashing <strong>Icebreaker Ensemble<\/strong> will be here on\u00a0<a title=\"View event details\" href=\"http:\/\/soundsnew.org.uk\/events\/icebreaker-perform-apollo\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Saturday 3 May<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in a performance of Brian Eno&#8217;s <em>Apollo for all Mankind<\/em>, as well as the premi\u00e8re of composer Ed Bennett&#8217;s <em>Suspect Device <\/em>and music by Julia Wolfe.<\/p>\n<p>[vimeo 13914611 w=450 h=253]<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> Brodsky Quartet<\/strong> will be here on <strong><a title=\"View event details\" href=\"http:\/\/soundsnew.org.uk\/events\/brodsky-quartet-robert-wyatt-project\/\" target=\"_blank\">Thursday 8 May <\/a><\/strong>with a celebration of the music of prog-rock legend Robert Wyatt; the former Soft Machine founder&#8217;s music will be realised in a blend of strings, improvisation and live electronics, including singer Elaine Mitchener and Matt Wright.<\/p>\n<p>The festival also features the Sounds New Poetry strand, with members of the University Centre for Modern Poetry in site-specific residencies in the city.
