{"id":3080,"date":"2011-10-06T09:18:57","date_gmt":"2011-10-06T08:18:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=3080"},"modified":"2011-10-06T09:24:42","modified_gmt":"2011-10-06T08:24:42","slug":"canterbury-festival-begins-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2011\/10\/06\/canterbury-festival-begins-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Canterbury Festival begins next week!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The rich plethora of artistry that is the annual <a title=\"Visit weblink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.canterburyfestival.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Canterbury Festival<\/a> kicks off on Saturday 15 October, bringing a feast of music, theatre, dance, comedy, talks and more to Canterbury.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.canterburyfestival.co.uk\/umbraco\/imagegen.ashx?image=\/media\/150269\/lunchtime%20concerts%20web.jpg&amp;height=347&amp;width=540&amp;compression=100\" alt=\"Violins\" width=\"227\" height=\"146\" \/>Of particular note are: a concert with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canterburyfestival.co.uk\/what%27s-on\/classical-music\/jan-garbarek-and-the-hilliard-ensemble.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble<\/a>; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canterburyfestival.co.uk\/what%27s-on\/classical-music\/moscow-philharmonic-orchestra.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra<\/a> with an all-Russian programme; Tchaikovsky&#8217;s delightful <em>Souvenir de Florence<\/em> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canterburyfestival.co.uk\/what%27s-on\/classical-music\/trondheim-soloists.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Trondheim Soloists<\/a>, and a lunchtime concert by some of our very own University Music Scholars at the Festival Club on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canterburyfestival.co.uk\/what%27s-on\/family\/lunchtimes-at-the-festival-club-university-of-kent-music-scholarship-students.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Friday October 25th<\/a>, accompanied by yours truly.<\/p>\n<p>Ian Swatman, conductor of the University Concert and Big Bands, is appearing with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canterburyfestival.co.uk\/what%27s-on\/festival-club\/the-kd-jazz-and-dance-orchestra.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">KD Jazz and Dance Orchestra<\/a> on October 21st.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Theatre Royal Bath Productions bring Alan Bennett&#8217;s classic &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.canterburyfestival.co.uk\/what%27s-on\/theatre-dance\/the-madness-of-king-george-iii.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">The Madness of George II<\/a>I&#8217;
