{"id":2425,"date":"2010-11-26T19:51:57","date_gmt":"2010-11-26T18:51:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=2425"},"modified":"2010-11-26T19:51:57","modified_gmt":"2010-11-26T18:51:57","slug":"lights-camera-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2010\/11\/26\/lights-camera-christmas\/","title":{"rendered":"Lights, camera: Christmas!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Christmas in Canterbury has officially begun, and the Chamber Choir yesterday braved the freezing weather to sing to the good citizens in the town, still shopping at 5pm, with a selection of seasonal music.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2427\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2427\" style=\"width: 358px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2010\/11\/christmas_lights_01_web.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2427 \" style=\"margin-left: 5px;margin-right: 5px;border: white 5px solid\" title=\"christmas_lights_01_web\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2010\/11\/christmas_lights_01_web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"358\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2010\/11\/christmas_lights_01_web.jpg 448w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2010\/11\/christmas_lights_01_web-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 358px) 100vw, 358px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2427\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">May you beautifully rhyme...<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A well-lit stage in the pedestrian precinct adjacent to Fenwick&#8217;s hosted the Cathedral Choristers, pupils from King&#8217;s School, and the University Chamber Choir, who gave rousing performances of popular carols under the exuberant direction of the Deputy Director of Music, whilst fourth-year Drama student (and a former Chamber Choir conductor herself) Amy Clarke also stepped out of the soprano section to conduct the not-so-seasonal but lively piece, <em>Words<\/em> by Anders Edenroth.<\/p>\n<p>The Choir then adjourned to the street market in Whitefriars for some much-deserved mulled wine, where they showed their appreciation to the ladies on the market-stall by bursting into a spontaneous rendition of <em>Ding, Dong, Merrily on High<\/em>, to the delight of late shoppers who came out of the surrounding shops to listen.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2428\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2428\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2010\/11\/christmas_lights_02_web.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2428 \" style=\"margin-left: 5px;margin-right: 5px;border: white 5px solid\" title=\"christmas_lights_02_web\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2010\/11\/christmas_lights_02_web-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2010\/11\/christmas_lights_02_web-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2010\/11\/christmas_lights_02_web.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2428\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Make good cheer and be right merry<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Celebrities from this year&#8217;s\u00a0Marlowe Theatre pantomime (including <em>The Fast Show&#8217;s <\/em>John Thompson) then entertained the crowds and the town&#8217;s Christmas lights were turned on.
