{"id":1384,"date":"2010-06-17T09:13:17","date_gmt":"2010-06-17T08:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=1384"},"modified":"2010-07-14T14:46:01","modified_gmt":"2010-07-14T13:46:01","slug":"the-nations-favourite-aria-the-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2010\/06\/17\/the-nations-favourite-aria-the-results\/","title":{"rendered":"The nation&#8217;s favourite aria: the results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Radio 3\u00a0has just concluded a poll to try and find the Nation\u2019s Favourite Aria, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/radio3\/opera\/arias\/\">the results are in<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Puccini\u2019s <em>Nessun dorma<\/em> doesn\u2019t appear, although he is present through <em>E lucevan le stelle<\/em>\u00a0from <em>Tosca.<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0There are no\u00a0arias by Rossini or\u00a0Verdi. Mozart appears three times, and there&#8217;s even an aria from Korngold&#8217;s <em>Die Tote Stadt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>All but\u00a0one\u00a0of the arias (if you count <em>Che faro senza Eurydice<\/em> as a trouser-role)\u00a0are for soprano or mezzo-soprano.
