{"id":11632,"date":"2024-10-03T16:32:04","date_gmt":"2024-10-03T15:32:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=11632"},"modified":"2024-10-03T16:32:04","modified_gmt":"2024-10-03T15:32:04","slug":"chorus-and-orchestra-to-give-uk-premiere-in-december","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2024\/10\/03\/chorus-and-orchestra-to-give-uk-premiere-in-december\/","title":{"rendered":"Chorus and Orchestra to give UK premiere in December"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of our December concert season, the University Chorus and Orchestra will be giving the UK premiere of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/7qhaeRtMEbotJI9tFhCpNx?si=TKm2aUBDS7iStQj9UOZpNA\"><strong><em>Winter Nights<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a marvellously-colourful seasonal cantata by the Canadian composer, <strong>Stephanie Martin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11633\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11633\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11633\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2024\/10\/steph_martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11633\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stephanie Martin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Associate professor of music at York University\u2019s School of the Arts, Media, Performance, and Design in Toronto, Stephanie also directs Schola Magdalena, a women\u2019s ensemble for chant, medieval and modern music, and is also conductor emeritus of Pax Christi Chorale, and former director of music at the historic church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Toronto. We&#8217;re delighted that Stephanie will be flying in for the performance &#8211; so no pressure at all&#8230;!<\/p>\n<p><em>Winter Nights<\/em> sets a series of poems including a vivacious setting of Tennyson&#8217;s &#8216;Ring Out, Wild Bells&#8217; and Thomas Campion&#8217;s &#8216;Now Winter Nights Enlarge&#8217; as part of an evocative sequence supported by string orchestra.
