{"id":10925,"date":"2022-03-24T13:35:14","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T13:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=10925"},"modified":"2022-03-24T13:39:04","modified_gmt":"2022-03-24T13:39:04","slug":"earbox-art-and-music-in-dialogue-returns-to-studio-3-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2022\/03\/24\/earbox-art-and-music-in-dialogue-returns-to-studio-3-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"#EarBox: art and music in dialogue returns to Studio 3 Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a lengthy absence, it was good to be back in the richly-resonant acoustic of Studio 3 Gallery, the University&#8217;s art gallery, for a performance by the <strong>String Sinfonia<\/strong> yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10927\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2022\/03\/IMG_20220323_112832.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"356\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <em><strong>#EarBox<\/strong> <\/em>series of events bringing music and visual art together returned with a programme relating to <em>Le piazze [In}visibili<\/em>, an exhibition of photographs documenting empty Italian\u00a0<em>piazzi<\/em> during the first lockdown in 2020, when normally vibrant social spaces became suddenly silent.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10926\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2022\/03\/IMG_20220323_112636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ensemble&#8217;s opening piece, the <em>Chacony<\/em> by Purcell, took on a greater emotional significance as it rang out against the backdrop of the images, Purcell&#8217;s aching dissonances assuming more of an impact. Vivaldi&#8217;s <em>Spring<\/em> picked up on the Italian connection, and in a wonderful moment of serendipity, birdsong in the spring afternoon outside the gallery could be heard in between the movements.
